THE Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) raised its alert level amid reports of the presence anew of members of the Ozamiz robbery group in the city.

Chief Inspector Placido Gentoleo, chief of BCPO Intelligence Unit, said Monday they are intensifying their intelligence monitoring to validate the reported arrival of the Ozamiz robbery group in Bacolod.

The Bacolod police was informed by Police Regional Office-Western Visayas (PRO-6) last Friday that members of Ozamiz robbery group were sighted in the cities of Bacolod and Iloilo.

Gentoleo said all police station commanders in Bacolod were directed to visit pawnshop stores, banks, and lending firms within their respective areas of jurisdiction to alert their security personnel.

Although the police are still validating the report, they cannot discount the possibility that the Ozamiz robbery group will strike in Bacolod, he added.

Gentoleo said the BCPO is advising business establishments in the city to be vigilant and to report to the police the presence of suspicious looking persons.

Last April, three members of the Ozamiz robbery group were also sighted in Bacolod. The three suspects were identified in Dumaguete City after they were also sighted in the area. Read the related story here.

Back then, the police monitored hotels, pension houses and even apartments as these places could be the possible hideouts of the notorious robbery group.

In March 2013, suspected members of the Ozamiz-Parohinog group carted away millions in jewelry during a broad daylight heist in a pawnshop and jewelry store in downtown Bacolod.

Among the suspects who pulled off the P3.6-million robbery at the Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) office in Bacolod in March 2012 were also members of the Dipolog-Ozamiz group.
