SENIOR Superintendent Pedrito Escarilla, officer-in-charge of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said on Friday that the reports on the presence of the Ozamiz robbery group in the city turned out negative.

After almost two weeks of intelligence monitoring, there was no validation that they arrived in Bacolod, he said.

Escarilla said he believes the robbery group also monitored that the city police were on alert to neutralize them.

The BCPO and Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Noppo) had earlier raised their alert level after they received information that members of the Ozamiz robbery group were sighted in the cities of Bacolod and Iloilo.

Escarilla said they will continue their monitoring to pre-empt the possible operation of the notorious robbery group.

“We don’t discount the possibility that the robbery group will strike in the city,” he added.

Chief Inspector Placido Gentoleo, chief of BCPO Intelligence Unit, had earlier said all the police station commanders in Bacolod were directed to visit pawnshop stores, banks, and lending firms to alert their security personnel.

Suspected members of the Ozamiz-Parohinog robbed a pawnshop and jewelry store in downtown Bacolod in March last year.
