Anti-narcotic units intensify ops after multi-million drug hauls

THE anti-illegal drug units of both the Bacolod City Police Office and Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office are intensifying their operations in the wake of multi-million drug hauls in the city and the province in the past week.

Senior Inspector Jerick Filosofo of the Bacolod City Anti-Illegal Drug Special Operations Task Group said they are zeroing in on identified drug-affected barangays to neutralize drug pushers.

He said that most of the illegal drugs supply that arrived in Bacolod were transported from Manila, Cebu, Iloilo, and Mindanao.

He added that they need the cooperation of courier service companies because these are involved in transporting contraband.

Last week, anti-narcotics operatives seized about P2 million worth of illegal drugs in two separate operations in Bacolod within 24 hours.

On July 15, agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) confiscated 20 sachets of shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) with an estimated market value of close to P800,000 inside the store of cellular phone technician Amiro Tantua on Mabini Street.

A day earlier, operatives of the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group seized P1.2 million worth of illegal drugs from a taxi driver following a drug bust inside a mall in Bacolod.

Last Friday, the top drug personality of Himamaylan City and his four companions were arrested in an operation at Barangay Libacao, which also yielded 299.28 grams of suspected shabu with a street value of P1.8 million.

Illegal drug charges were filed by police Monday before the Himamaylan City Prosecutor’s Office against the five suspects.

Superintendent Antonietto Cañete of Himamaylan City Police Station said Tuesday that Luis Felicisimo Limsiaco, Jessica Mediodia and her brother Leo, and Ian Nepales were charged for violations of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Cañete said that with the arrest of the suspects, the illegal drug activities in Himamaylan would be lessened.
