Leonardia joining PDP-Laban; oathtaking set Sept. 30

BACOLOD City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, a long-time member of Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), is among the more than 160 officials in Negros Occidental who will take oath as members of the ruling party on September 30 at L’ Fisher Hotel in the city.

Yves Akol, secretary-general of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) in Negros Island Region (NIR), said a total of 163 local officials will be inducted.

These include 91 from United Negros Alliance (Unega) led by Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr., 60 from Love Negros led by Third District Rep. Alfredo Benitez, and 12 from Bacolod led by Leonardia.

Their oath will be administered by Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III, and House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez, president and secretary-general of PDP-Laban, respectively.

Before the oathtaking, the local officials will attend the PDP-Laban basic membership seminar.

Leonardia, in a press conference Tuesday said, he has he has already cleared with the NPC national leadership his plan to join President
Rodrigo Duterte’s political party.

He added that all members of his local party Grupo Progreso, including Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and the councilors, will join him.

Councilors Caesar Distrito and Cindy Rojas will be out of the country, but definitely they will also join PDP-Laban, the mayor said.

Bacolod City Lone District Rep. Greg Gasataya said he still have to discuss with the NPC national directorate whether to join his colleagues in taking oath with the PDP-Laban.

“I will still work out my papers especially that we also have a coalition with the PDP-Laban in congress,” Gasataya said.
