NGCP’s P186-M San Carlos-Guihulngan transmission line 82% complete

THE National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) is nearing the completion of the P186-million San Carlos City, Negros Occidental to Guihulngan, Negros Oriental 69-KV Transmission Line Project.

Project chief engineer Jessie Asuga said the project aims to address the congestion of its transmission in Negros Island Region.

“The project aims to accommodate the power demand in northeast Negros and complete the Cadiz-Amlan loop,” Asuga said during the press conference and project presentation at Sugarland Hotel in Bacolod City on Tuesday.

He added that the project is now about 82 percent complete, and the targeted energization will be on June 27, 2017.

The project involves 236 structures, 171 steel towers, and 66 steel poles, spanning 58 kilometers and traversing 19 barangays in San Carlos City, Guihulngan, and Vallerhermoso.

“When completed, the line will have a capacity of 180 megawatts (MW) and when energized, will have an additional load of 90 MW. In the western side of the island, the Negros-Panay line project will have a capacity of 180 MW,” Asuga said.

The project is one of the two major projects of NGCP for Negros. The other one is the 230KV Backbone Project for the Negros-Cebu Interconnection.

NGCP spokesperson Cynthia Perez-Alabanza said the project will allow “excess power (to) be sent to neighboring provinces.”

NGCP is a fully private corporation that won the franchise to operate and maintain the country’s transmission network.
