BACOLOD City Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) president Noli Villarosa said Sunday that the barangays need the support of Mayor Evelio Leonardia in the implementation of the "no segregation, no collection" policy.
Villarosa said that in previous years, some barangays had practiced the policy, but it was not sustained.
"If the mayor is really serious in implementing the 'no segregation, no collection' policy, he should support us because it is not easy to implement," he added.
City Administrator John Orola earlier said the Solid Waste Management Board will distribute information materials and conduct seminars in preparation for the implementation of the "no segregation, no collection" policy starting April 1.
He said they will impose corresponding penalties on violators.
The waste segregation is in compliance with Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2003.
Villarosa said they need the support of the local government so that all the barangay officials will work hard to implement the policy.
"We need materials like sacks or garbage bags, and they should assist us to educate our residents on waste segregation," he added.
