AN INMATE leader from the Metro Bacolod District Jail-Special Intensive Care Area (MBDJ-Sica) in Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City, was allegedly mauled to death Monday inside the Negros Occidental District Jail in Bago City, where he was recently transferred.
The fatality was identified as Nolan Baldomar, 35, of Purok Cabugwason, Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.
Jail Officer 2 Juniven Rey Umadhay, public information officer of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-Negros Island Region (NIR), said a commotion ensued between Baldomar and other inmates when he was transferred to NODJ.
Baldomar sustained bruises and suffered chest pain. He was declared dead in a hospital.
Umadhay said the incident was probably triggered by Baldomar's encounter with inmates who have grudge against him.
Baldomar was among the 18 inmate leaders from MBDJ-Sica who were moved to NODJ due to security threat.
One of the inmates involved in the commotion is being investigated.
Umadhay said the BJMP regional office is also conducting an investigation to determine if the personnel of NODJ have a liability.
