Bacolod City College urged to comply with Ched accreditation

Monday, August 14, 2017

A BACOLOD City lawmaker urged the Bacolod City College (BCC) to comply with the requirements to get an accreditation from the Commission on Higher Education (Ched).

City Lone District Representative Greg Gasataya said Ched informed him last week they are willing to assist the BCC to be accredited so that its students can avail of free tuition under the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act.

“BCC should comply with all the requirements as soon as possible because several colleges in the country are also applying for accreditation from Ched,” he said.

As a community or local college, BCC could avail of the free tuition, he added.

Gasataya added that BCC has already submitted some of the requirements.

Free Wi-Fi

Meanwhile, Gasataya requested the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to provide additional free Wi-Fi connections in Bacolod.

Gasataya said that in 2017, the DICT approved free Wi-Fi in six areas in Bacolod and Silay cities such as the Capitol Lagoon and Bacolod-Silay Airport.

He said that he requested to include the Bacolod City Government Center and the Bacolod public plaza.

The DICT will check and verify the areas to be included in the 2018 budget, he added.
