A JEEPNEY driver and his 14 passengers who are all teachers were injured after their vehicle was hit by a truck loaded with sand at the intersection of Normandia and Bagtic Road in Barangay Bagtic, Silay City, Negros Occidental Tuesday morning, September 5.

Driver Carlos Detina Jr., 62, of Barangay Guimbalaon and teacher Nancy Lazareto, 61, of Talisay City, were seriously injured.

Superintendent Noel Polines, city police chief, said the jeepney was on its way to Guimbalaon National High School around 7:10 a.m. when its rear part was hit by the truck which came from Bacolod City.

Polines said both vehicles were traveling at low speed, but due to the impact, the jeepney fell on its side.

The two seriously wounded victims were rushed to Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital and Our Lady of Mercy Specialty Hospital, respectively, in Bacolod City.

The 13 other teachers were treated at Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City for minor injuries.

The dump truck was driven by Nazareno Padernal, 43, of Sagay City. He was unharmed.

Padernal is detained at the station and will be released after the 18-hour reglementary period, if a case will not be filed against him.
