‘Negros Island too small for a state’

Friday, October 06, 2017

HOUSE Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez said Thursday, that Negros Island will be too small for a state and if federalism pushes through, some islands would be added to the two provinces under one federal state.

Alvarez, who was in Negros Occidental Thursday, October 5, for the mass oath-taking rites of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), said that after the abolition of the Negros Island Region, there is a proposed bill for NIR.

He said the proposals will be discussed in the Constituent Assembly.

Alvarez said that President Rodrigo Duterte will finish his six-year term despite the controversies hounding the administration.

“Huwag nilang subukan. We will not take this sitting down,” Alvarez warned.

He said that despite the continuous attacks by those who cannot accept defeat, the Duterte administration will do everything to deliver all the promises of the President on genuine reforms.

“We assure you that the change the President promised will be realized. Those attacks are not good example to the people because we know that the President wants to bring change to the country. They do everything so that the President will fail to bring the change he wants for the country. But I will tell you, we will not be cowarded to succeed,” Alvarez said.
