Public hearing on June 18 holiday in Bacolod sought

Friday, October 13, 2017

BACOLOD City Councilor Wilson Gamboa Jr. is seeking a public hearing on the proposed resolution of Councilor Caesar Distrito declaring June 18 as non-working public holiday in the city expressing support to House Bill 51875 proposed by Representative Greg Gasataya.

The proposed holiday date is the declaration of Bacolod Charter Day, which is celebrated every 18th of June annually.

Gamboa said he will invite all stakeholders to get their views and sentiments regarding the change of date in the celebration of the city’s Charter Day, which is by tradition being celebrated every 19th of October of every year.

June 18 was the signing into law of the cityhood of Bacolod and October 19 was its inauguration, making Bacolod as a full-fledged city in Negros Occidental.

Vice Mayor Elcid Familiaran said this measure aims to correct the apparent historical error.

We even have the so-called “Adlaw sang pag Handuraw” celebrated every June 18 which is the commemoration of the signing into law of the Charter of Bacolod, he said.

Gasataya will also hold a public hearing on the matter.
