Lawmaker warns vs persons using her name for solicitation

Wednesday, November 22, 2017

House Deputy Speaker Mercedes Alvarez warned the public against certain individuals using her name to solicit money.

“It has come to my attention that certain individuals have been using my name to solicit money. I have verified this because two of their would-have-been victims are my friends,” she said.

Alvarez, who represents the Sixth District of Negros Occidental, pointed out that while she supports worthy endeavors and commendable private initiatives, she doesn’t solicit monetary assistance from entities or individuals.

“So if someone asks you for financial assistance using my name, please verify it with me or my offices in Kabankalan and Batasan because I don’t allow anyone to use my name to ask for monetary sponsorship for whatever purpose,” she added.

Alvarez said that a certain woman is using her name.

“Please be warned not to be preyed on by this certain individual,” she added.
