AT LEAST 480 women in Moises Padilla town, Negros Occidental received machetes from the Municipal Government.
Senior Inspector Alfred de Leon, town police chief, said the weapons will be used as tools in their respective homes and in farming.
The distribution was led by Mayor Magdaleno Peña last Thursday, during the release of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) allowances at the municipal auditorium.
De Leon said 2,500 other women will be given the same weapon for protection.
When asked about the possibility of using the weapon in crimes, De Leon said they cannot predict what will happen but the objective is for defense. (GYM)
