YVES Akol, secretary-general of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) in Negros Occidental, said Thursday the party has yet to discuss about local politics.
Akol made the statement after he received his official designation from the national leadership of PDP-Laban.
“The party reverted us back to Negros Occidental after the abolition of the Negros Island Region (NIR),” said Akol, former secretary-general of PDP-Laban NIR.
He said the party recognizes Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. as the highest elected provincial official, but they have yet to receive the memorandum about his official appointment with the party.
Marañon has reportedly been designated as the party’s provincial chair.
Akol added that the party has designated Government Service Insurance System president Clint Aranas as the provincial president of PDP-Laban in Negros Occidental.
He said the party’s political plans in the province could be discussed soon with Aranas.
Akol refused to comment further when asked how the party will resolve the possible fielding of local slates of the United Negros Alliance (Unega) and Love Negros in the 2019 elections.
Unega is led by Marañon while Love Negros is headed by Third District Representative Alfredo Benitez. Both are members of PDP-Laban.
Benitez is expected to support Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson for governor if the latter decides to run for the province’s highest position.
Lacson has remained with the Nationalist People's Coalition.
