NEGRENSES will join the nationwide commemoration of the Edsa People Power Revolution to be organized by various groups this weekend.
Progressive groups in Bacolod City will lead the 32nd anniversary rally on Saturday, February 24, starting 12 p.m.
It will kick off with a march from Rizal Elementary School going to Lopue’s San Sebastian wherein rallyists will talk about the situation of workers and peasants.
They will then proceed to the Rotonda, where the tax reform law will be tackled.
Rallyists will then go to San Sebastian Cathedral where Father Chris Gonzales, director of Social Action Center of the Bacolod Diocese, will talk about the stand of the Catholic Church on the proposed change in the Constitution.
The group will also make a stop at the Negros Press Club where members of the press will tackle media repression.
The rally will culminate at the Fountain of Justice.
On Sunday, Tindig Pilipinas-Negros Chapter will lead the commemoration dubbed “People Werpa!” at the main entrance of Capitol Park and Lagoon at 4 p.m.
Members of the academe, non-government organizations, and civic groups are expected to join the commemoration.
“In Edsa 1986, we have changed the world. We defied the destiny that is not for us. In Edsa People Power, we made a new nation under Divine Sovereignty. Yet, we are challenged to translate the gains of Edsa for our children to make a difference,” the group said.
