SIPALAY City Mayor Oscar Montilla said the groundbreaking ceremony for the Sipalay City District Hospital that will soon rise in Barangay Canturay will be on January 22.
The construction will start in June this year while the hospital is expected to be operational early next year.
The Provincial Government under Governor Alfredo Maranon Jr. will undertake the construction of a 75-bed capacity hospital worth P100 million in Sipalay City after a matriarch of the Montilla clan, Merceditas Montilla, donated two hectares of her property for the site of the hospital.
Montilla said that she decided to donate part of her property for the hospital as she saw the need to have a district hospital in the area.
Sipalay is almost six hours away from Bacolod City. If there are medical emergencies, the patients cannot be attended to immediately, she added.
Maranon said that the district hospital, to be named Merceditas J. Montilla District Hospital, will be world class and will be constructed to cater not only to the needs of the people in the far southern part of the province but to foreign tourists as well who have invested in Sipalay City.
Maranon explained that the hospital specification is still being finalized and will be submitted to the Department of Health (DOH) for approval.
The deed of donation and memorandum of agreement were already signed by Montilla and Maranon last week.
Present during the signing were Vice Governor Genaro Alvarez, sixth district Representative Mercedes Alvarez and Board Members Pedro Zayco and Helen Zafra.
Montilla said the ground works and earth moving jobs will be done by the City Government while the construction of the hospital building will be funded by the Provincial Government.
Maranon also revealed that the Provincial Government will purchase a compressor.
Congresswoman Alvarez meanwhile said that she will allocate P10 million from her congressional funds for the hospital. She will also lobby with the DOH and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office for other equipment for the hospital.
She added there are several hospital equipment donated by Sipalaynons in Canada for the hospital that are now in the safe-keeping of the Sipalay City Government.
Sipalay City Mayor Oscar Montilla said the City Government will transfer to the new City Hall at the second quarter of this year.
The construction of the new City Hall building was already finished, Montilla said.
The city engineering department is now working on the elevator, the electrical connections and the air conditioning units of the rooms and offices for the whole building.
He added the city is presently facilitating the purchase of equipment and furniture for the whole building.
Montilla also said that the city officials are considering alternative uses for the old City Hall.
“It could be converted into a museum or a Hall of Justice,” he said. (Teresa Ellera-Dulla)
