Groups join 100th Women's Day rally

MEMBERS of Gabriela-Negros, Karapatan-Negros, Bayan-Negros, League of Filipino Students (LFS), Anakbayan Party and other progressive organizations staged a rally to celebrate the International Working Women's Day at Bacolod Public Plaza on Tuesday.

The celebration is a nationwide action to commemorate the struggle and sacrifices of women during the 18th century industrial revolution in Europe, United States of America and other part of western countries where women led the revolution and fight for equal rights.

Cafgu trainee dies from 'rigid training'

A Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) trainee at the military camp in Barangay Minoyan, Murcia allegedly died due to rigid training.

Moises Padilla Councilor Marvin Tan identified the Cafgu trainee as Julie Bee Ordeñez, 30, and a resident of Moises Padilla.

BACOLOD CITY -- Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. has given the local police three days to arrest Noel Ayalin, the suspect in the massacre of four village officials in Negros Occidental last Sunday.

The governor’s order came a day after Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo ordered the Western Visayas police to hunt down Ayalin, who went on a shooting spree inside the council hall of Kapitan Ramon village in Silay City.

Cities league to appeal Supreme Court ruling on 16 new cities

THE League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) will appeal the recent Supreme Court decision upholding the constitutionality of the 16 new cities, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia said on Monday.

“The process of filing the motion for reconsideration is to ventilate, articulate and crystallize issues affecting city government administration, and securing, through proper and legal means, solutions thereto,” he said.

New assignments of COPs out on March 16: Noppo

NEGROS Occidental Provincial Police Office (Noppo) Director Allan Guisihan said the new assignments of the chiefs of police (COPs) who were relieved last March 1 will be out March 16.    He said COPs who have just served in their respective stations from two weeks to one month will be assigned back to the police stations in Sipalay City, San Enrique, Hinobaan, Victorias and Valladolid.

A FORMER barangay chief reportedly killed four village officials and wounded three others in Silay City in Negros Occidental province Sunday morning.

Based on police reports, Noel Ayalin, 48, the former chief of Barangay Kapitan Ramon, reportedly stormed into the barangay session hall where the incumbent officials were about to start their session and opened fire using his .45 caliber pistol.

ENERGY Secretary Jose Rene Almendras confirmed Friday that fuel retailers are the ones controlling the pump prices in the province.

“This is one of the reasons why there is a disparity in the prices of fuel products in the provinces like Negros Occidental and in Manila,” he said in a media briefing of economic managers as a sidelight of President Benigno Aquino III’s visit to the province.

Flyover construction to begin this month

DEPARTMENT of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Rogelio “Babes” Singson announced Friday that the construction of the flyover project at Bata-PEPSI intersection in Bacolod City will be implemented this month.

BACOLOD City Police Office (BCPO) officer-in-charge Ricardo De la Paz ordered on Wednesday Bacolod Traffic Management Unit (TMU) head Police Chief Inspector Levy Pangue to apprehend jeepney barkers in the city.

This after BCPO received several complaints from different jeepney drivers that they could no longer earn enough because of the demand of some jeepney barkers.
