ARELLANO University cruised to a convincing 108-47 triumph over Holy Trinity College for its second straight win in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League zonal qualifying tournament.

The event was held at the LNA Memorial Sports Center (formerly the West Negros University Gym) in Bacolod City.

The Chiefs relied on their outside shooting to break away in the first quarter and coasted to the win that all but ensured their entry to the Sweet 16. Arellano can sweep the zonals with a win over host WNU tonight.

The Mustangs, the reigning NOPSSCEA champions, prevailed over Holy Trinity, 93-77, for their first win Tuesday night.

The Chiefs, who barely survived University of San Carlos, 79-74, buried 16 triples en route to the one-sided victory over the Wildcats, who are no longer in contention for one of the two Sweet 16 slots.

Jerry Miranda led the Chiefs with 24 points, built on six triples, while Isaiah Ciriacruz and point guard Leo Anquillo, who stands a shade above five feet, chipped in 13 each.

Arellano started the game like a house on fire, drilling five treys in the first quarter with Adrian Celada, who topscored with 21 points in the game against USC, tallying two triples.

With the outcome settled early, coach Junjie Ablan didn't see the need to give main man Gio Ciriacruz major minutes. The 6 foot 4 Cciriacruz still finished with 10 points.

Against HTC Tuesday night, the Mustangs took their biggest lead at 20 points in the third period, where Sarabia opted for a more guard-laden lineup of Villariza, jacinto, Rolly Jaca and Robert Lauron.

The Mustangs applied the press but it took awhile for them to wear down the Wildcats.

Jetric Sumido announced his return by drilling in back-to-back triples for a 69-49 bubble late in the third quarter.

The Mustangs inexplicably lost their focus anew, allowing the Wildcats to come within 70-77 on Eric Lamanilao's triple with seven minutes remaining.

Jacinto quelled the rally with a triple and a fastbreak layup. A jumper by Villariza pushed the lead to 12 and a two-handed dunk by Raul suyod all but wrapped up the victory, 90-75, with 3:05 left.
