Negros PCOS training on Feb. 1

SMARTMATIC has set February 1 for its training on the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) for the May 10, 2010 elections.

John Cabalu, Smartmatic provincial coordinator, said after several postponements, the last was January 20, the training will finally pushes through.

The training, which would cap 45 days, is designed for the Canvassing Consolidating System Operators (CCSO) and PCOS technicians who will be assigned in every polling precinct, said Cabalu.

Cabalu said 15 PCOS in every training center will be used.

Among the designated training centers are: for District 1 and 2 will be Cadiz City; Bacolod City -- for District 3, 2, Lone District of Bacolod, and District 4; and Kabankalan City -- for District 5 and 6, respectively.

Smartmatic said to install 1 CCSO each for Bacolod City Comelec office and in the Comelec provincial office.

The CCSOs will receive the results to be relayed from the precincts.

To date, some 30,500 PCOS arrived in the country out of 82,000 PCOS to be used for the first ever automated elections in the country in May 10 polls.

The PCOS are manufactured in Shanghai, China.

Cabalu said each precinct will be assigned with 1 PCOS technician during the elections.
