Noppo chief assures Negrenses of good service

NEWLY installed Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (Noppo) director Manuel Felix recognizes the tough demand of his new post but said he will serve the province at all cost.

Felix, 43, was installed last November 24 as Noppo head, replacing Senior Superintendent Rosendo Franco, who is now assigned with the Police Security and Protection Office (PSPO) in Camp Crame.

He said his first order of the day is visiting all the police units under his command. "I have to get to know our police officers here in the province as soon as possible."

"I want every police officer to be responsible in the way they dress, the way they approach the community, and the way they serve the public because that is the true Filipino police traits," said Felix, a graduate of Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 1983.

Felix believes that the threat of New People's Army (NPA) attacks will give him some headaches.

Last week, the rebel group attacked Toboso town and killed a village councilor, along with a small-time sugar planter.

"Wherever you are in the country, there is always the presence of this rebel [NPA] group. But we will carefully implement plans to maintain and ensure the security of each and every town and city in Negros," Felix said.

"I am appealing to the community to cooperate with us because it's really hard to do the task if the police will just do it alone. The media, the local government units, everybody should cooperate with us for our own good," he added.
