Don’t thank politicians

THIS was the straightforward statement of a car salesman during a gathering in a bar in Bacolod City. The salesman was referring to the elected officials who are sitting in powerful seats in this kenkoy country called the Philippines.

When elected officials help their constituents, there is nothing at all to thank them because it is their obligation as elected officials to do their job. The problem with this funny country is that these politicos expect the residents to thank them by voting them again into office.

Look at those new councilors, they always see to it that their faces always appear on the newspaper doing good deeds for their constituents, said a retired banker. That is their duty to the residents of the land and that is just political publicity. Those who do not belong to the majority among the councilors do not get equal opportunity because they belong to the opposition parties, said a retired politico.

It’s BOLAHAN TIME again, said a grandpa of seven. It’s good business again for the tarpaulin printers because you will notice good and bad politicians congratulating graduates, thanking barangay captains, even using barangay captains to thank these trapos in streamers though the politicos paid for these banners, said a disgruntled kagawad.
***
Poor residents will never get good opportunities because politicians want them to remain just simply poor. That is the way to control them during elections when they will vote for a candidate in exchange for a hundred pesos valid for three years in an elective seat, said the kagawad.

It’s the politicians’ way of life to rebuild roads near election campaign period or one year before elections. And the voters get fooled as if the voters have to thank them for their efforts. Actually this is fooling time again or BOLAHAN moments by the politicos. But the politicos know that this is effective. So it is show time once again, laughed the insurance man.
(Be humble and simple and Jesus will love you for that. Be boastful proud and arrogant and Satan will cherish your acts).
