One man changed the course of history

IT WAS bad enough they did not know the exact date of the birth of the son of God who was born in a stable. It was worse assigning him a big pagan holiday as his birthday.
Sometime in the third century, Emperor Constantine became a Christian and he wanted to bring his pagan subjects to honor Jesus Christ. He assigned a big pagan holiday known by everyone as his birthday. Together with it he allowed pagan practices to continue. They were allowed to worship idols and statues. Thus some churches have lots of them.
We know December 25 is the height of winter in Israel. The shepherds and their flocks would have frozen to death staying the night grazing the sheep. It was never done in the height of winter.
Most likely they did it in the summer months when there was grass in the fields and the temperature was warm enough. The shepherds were the first witnesses of the birth of Christ. The supposed three kings came much later when Mary and her family were already in a house.
That’s what happens when a dictator writes the course of history. He alone knew what was right. No one else.
Happy New Year to all our Sun.Star readers and staff. God bless you all.
