Water interruptions-A A +A

TAKE it from Albert Szent-Györgyi de Nagyrápolt, the Hungarian physiologist who snagged the 1937 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
The scientist was credited for discovering vitamin C and the components and reactions of the citric acid cycle.
I remember a favorite Szent-Györgyi quote over the weekend: "Water is life's mater and matrix, mother and medium. There is no life without water."
Well, there was no water in our household if not in the entire barangay, but life was there, if a bit challenged. If it's any consolation, this time BACIWA General Manager Juliana B. Carbon had the decency to issue a Water Interruption in the Service Area advisory.
Affected areas were Barangays Felisa, Mansilingan, Taculing, Bakyas, Alijis and Libertad. BACIWA was supposed to conduct service improvement activities so affected consumers suffered from August 29-31temporary water supply interruptions. The advisory said the utility had to pull-out Well #39's submersible motor.
We were advised to store enough water to supply their needs during the interruption period to avoid undue inconvenience. Yeah, we simply experienced the inconvenience, undue or planned.
Today, September 2, we are again expected to endure another great inconvenience. Another BACIWA advisory said it will conduct service improvement activities that will cause temporary water supply interruption in Barangays Mansilingan, Alijis, Taculing, Singcang, Libertad and downtown areas. We can expect turbid water to come out of our faucets.
BACIWA's service improvement activity is supposed to clean and disinfect the 6,500 cu.m. reservoir in Barangay Mansilingan. Of course, that improvement activity implies that the BACIWA water that consumers are getting is unclean and infected.
To make up for the great inconvenience that BACIWA is inflicting on us, I hope to see a great reduction on our next water bill. These great inconveniences cannot be considered business as usual with the same minimum rates.
Moreover, we also expect improved services. No more unplanned water interruptions or turbid water coming out of our taps. Assure us of clean and safe drinking water from our faucets that can reduce our household expenses for buying bottled water.
How does an astrobiologist decide what exoplanets, those Earth-like planets, have life? Malcolm Fridlund, the Project Scientist for the European Space Agency's Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) said they use telltale signatures of biomarkers that include "ozone, liquid water, and carbon dioxide simultaneously (as) very strong indicators of life's presence."
El agua es la vida. Water is life. Do BACIWA's persistent water interruptions to its consumers imply the deprivation of their right to life?
