Editorial: Proof-A A +A

NEGROS Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon Jr. has appeared to be serious that there are no sacred cows in the campaign against illegal logging in the province, particularly in the northern part, where a relative of his had allegedly been linked to the said nefarious activities.
The governor, however, had questioned outright what he suspected as “timing” in the surfacing of Board Member Rolando Ponsica in coming out with the clams linking a governor’s relative to illegal logging.
Which is which, or who is who as far as trumpeting the truth behind this allegation, of course, remains to be seen.
Politically-motivated, or otherwise, the good governor or his duly-designated officials to run after illegal logging, including the Task Force “Ilahas” must show proof that indeed, the provincial government means serious business, more than just mere talks, as far as the campaign against illegal logging is concerned.
There must be no ifs and buts regarding this matter, as it is Mother Nature’s stake and welfare which is at hand.
Should Ponsica and his informants have the data which could be ripe in filing the case, then, so be it.
Whichever which way, proof is needed, not mere baseless claim.
