Questions that Matter

Tuesday, February 4, 2014

SENATOR Bong Revilla in his privilege speech strongly stated that “The President of the Republic has summoned him on the height of the decision for the Corona impeachment trial. He said that he was “bribed” by the President to vote for the impeachment of the Chief Justice. Days later, the President admitted that he called on his allies to support his petition for the impeachment of the Arroyo-appointed Corona.

This issue stirred the whole nation as to whether the decision on the impeachment trial was impartial or not. Some sectors tried to impose an idea that there is a law that impeachment decision could never be reverted yet there are also other schools of thought that speaks about the retrial of an impeachment proceedings due to mistrial. So what now?

Just few weeks after the issue has spread like wildfire in the political rooms and tables, a showbiz action-drama went haywire. The Navarro-Cornejo-Lee action pack issue hit the headlines and covered all other political issues of the country. Everyone was hooked on all forms of media to know the developments of the scandal.

“Who’s at fault?” was the greatest question that hit the consciousness of all Filipinos. All discussions were focused on the issue. No matter how vigilant and radical newsmen are trying to really focus on the real issues of the day, the majority of the population was attending to the uselessness of the incident. It was a good smokescreen that protected the President from more harms. Congratulations to the “think-tank” of the Aquino administration.

Vhong Navarro really ended the issue. Is he the victim or the “paid fall guy” of the Aquino administration? Are Deniece Cornejo or Cedric Lee being paid to divert the issue and had Vhong Navarra as their victim?

Are they in conspiracy with the Aquino think-thanks? No matter how we answer these questions, I am sure that it saved the President and all his cohorts from the shame that Bong Revilla had unveiled in his privilege speech in the Senate.

The President was really saved by the incident and no one is now discussing the impeachment issue.

For the sake of intellectual argumentation, last week the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos debate contest had the proposition on the reinstatement of CJ Corona. Of course, both sides had done their best to present opinions and facts regarding the issue.

The College of Engineering (negative side) won the battle, but the College of Education presented good partitions in their arguments. It was a very good intellectual discussion that it really stirred the minds of those who were around. It was an enriching afternoon.

The argument of the positive side revolved around the speech of Revilla and the admission of the President. They questioned the credibility of the senator-judges as some of them were “bribed.” If this is proven, this will not only put the spotlight on the impeachment decision but will also put the President in the hot seat for another impeachment trial. This is similar to the issue of Erap who was not impeached but rather was taken out due to the non-opening of an envelope, which later turned out to be useless evidence.

What will happen if proven that they (senators) were indeed bribed by the President and his leeches? Thanks to Bong Revilla for revealing the real issue and thanks to Vhong Navarro et al for smogging the issue.

St. Ezekiel Moreno, St. Lorenzo Ruiz and Pedro Calungsod, Mons. John Lui and Su, and Sir Faraon Lopez, pray for us. Belated birthday greetings to Justin Nino Tabligan and Rev. Fr. Dexter Palagtiosa, OAR (Jan. 18); Rev. Fr. Louie Gabinete, OAR ( Jan. 28); Rev. Fr. Pedro Escanillas (Jan 31).
