IT MAKES sense, this guideline of Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, to all police chiefs and mobile force commanders.
Castil also reiterated his order of beefing up the defenses of every police station in Negros Occidental. He warned all police chiefs and mobile force commanders, in the wake of the series of attacks by the New People’s Army, with policemen as targets, nationwide.
This wave of attacks, as far as Google can recall, by the New People’s Army, with police officers as targets, nationwide. In June the NPA-Panay (Coronacion Chiva “Waling-Waling”) Command NPA raided a police station in Maasin, Iloilo.
Barely 48 hours after the government suspended peace talks with communist rebels in July 2017, NPA guerillas ambushed a local official and the responding policemen in Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental.
Then, this November, a police officer was killed while 10 others were wounded after a group of rebels fired at them on their way to the Regional Public Safety Battalion-6 camp in Maasin, Iloilo.
Two days prior, three police officers were wounded when the improvised explosive device allegedly planted by the communist rebels exploded in Sibalom, Antique.
Last month in Negros Island, communist rebels swooped down on a quarry site and bombed a backhoe Sunday night in Barangay Orong, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental. Then there’s the ambush of five policemen and two foreigners and a driver who were injured.
Elsewhere, four police officers were injured when communist rebels attacked a police station in Misamis Oriental, in the aftermath of an ambush of a police convoy that killed a policeman and wounded seven others.
But Castil added that police commanders have to verify first any reported incident, before taking action. There’s no sense of going on a wild goose chase.
Which is more than I can say about lawyer Lorenzo Gadon. He likes going after these illusory information on cases he filed against Chief Justice Lourdes Sereno.
He shoots first, then verifies. He should learn from Senior Supt. Rodolfo Castil who is in a life-and-death struggle against an armed enemy. But he wants verification first.
