CHAMPION Jerich Cajeras of Escalante City led three other winners from outside Bacolod City who topped their respective divisions in the 11th JRR Dizon Chess Tournament.
The tournament was staged last October 30-31 at the University of St. La Salle college covered court.

A total of 330 players competed in the event coming from various parts of Negros Occidental and Dumaguete City in this annual competition organized by the JRR Dizon Memorial Foundation headed by former USLS president and Commission on Higher Education (Ched) chairman Brother Rolando R. Dizon, FSC who celebrated his 65th birthday last October 31.
A chess standout from West Negros University, Cajeras topped the high school boys division followed by first runner-up Leyster Franz Andador of Talisay City and second runner-up Joel Pimented of St. Benilde School, Bacolod City.
The high school girls division was topped by Bago City bet Gem Gasendo, followed by first runner-up Christine Cabrales of La Carlota City, and second runner-up Karen Joy Anoran of Bacolod City.
The elementary boys division was topped by Cadiz City's Karl Gendrala while La Castellana's Zillard Eslabra took first runner-up honors while John Francis Sarabia of Cadiz city finished as second runner-up.
In elementary girls competition, toboso bet Mary Antonette Tingal emerged the winner followed by la Castellana's Ira Jade Tenerife as first runner-up and Hinigaran's Jessica Patalagsa as second runner-up.
Tournament director was Jessie Sanchez.
The event was staged in cooperation with the Bacolod Chess Training Center, chess Players Federation of Negros Inc. and the USLS Varsity Sports Office headed by Ms. Marilou Lozada.
Trophies, cash, and medals were awarded to the top ten finishers. Raffle prizes were provided by IEC computers including Dunlop watches to the champions.
The Cadiz City contingent nwas awarded a special prize for having the highest number of participants at 44, courtesy of Coach Pressyl Paguntalan, followed by Hinigaran at 35. (HCV)
