ABOUT 150 units of Pedio’s karitons will soon be made available to all local government units (LGUs) of Negros Occidental as a means of reinforcing the Provincial Government’s Hearts Plus development agenda.
Pedio, which stands for Peddlers Entrepreneurial Development Initiative Organization, is a livelihood project spearheaded by the Technology and Livelihood Development Center (TLDC) and financially aided by the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole).

Gov. Isidro Zayco instructed the TLDC to make three more prototypes and allot five units of kariton to every LGU.
The governor also pointed out that the recipients can sell whatever products they wish to sell but suggested that products from TLDC should be introduced to them.
Lawyer Ike Barredo said that one unit of kariton costs around P20,000, including capitalization and affirmed to create more units as the need arises.
Western Viayas director Aida Estabillo also assured Zayco of Dole’s full support of the project and pledged to give financial and technical assistance as needed.
Estabillo recommends students of the Technical Education and skills Development Authority (Tesda) to make the karitons. That way, they can learn and earn at the same time.
