Power firm sets brownout schedules

CENTRAL Negros Electric Cooperative Inc. (Ceneco) will implement power interruption schedules to guide its consumers as to the period when power would be out in their respective areas.

Ceneco General Manager Sulpicio Lagarde said the consumers would be given time to prepare ahead of time with the schedules posted.

He said the schedule will be changed every week to be fair to all consumers.

"This is in relation to the scheduled preventive maintenance of Tongonan Geothermal Power Plant (TGPP) Unit 1 from May 19 to June 23, 2010 and de-rated capacity of Palinpinon Geothermal Power Plant 1 (PGPP1) Unit 2, which prompted Ceneco to implement manual load dropping of '10 megawatts (MW) to 30 MW' from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.," said Lagarde.

He said the power interruption will be implemented based on the generation deficiency of Green Core Geothermal Incorporated (GCGI), as requested by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), the transmitter of power supplied by GCGI to Ceneco.

Lagarde said the Ceneco will conduct maintenance works and relocation of primary poles to right-of-way area due to road widening at Bacolod-Murcia boundary and Don Salvador area (AF3) on Saturday, June 5, which will last for eight hours, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Line clearing activities will also be conducted to further ensure the safety of the transmission and distribution lines.

"Member-consumers affected by the said activity are advised to turn off their electrical switch(es) all throughout the duration of the said power interruption for safety reasons, give an allowance of about 10-15 minutes after power resumption before turning on all electrical appliances and facilities to avoid power surge and make the necessary preparations to avoid inconvenience during the said interruption," Lagarde said.
