Provincial vet conducts mass animal vaccination

THE Provincial Veterinary Office is now conducting massive vaccination of animals in preparation for climate change, as damage to crops in Negros Occidental is now pegged at P28,785,877.60.
Dr. Renante Decena, provincial veterinarian, said the massive vaccination will continue until April in preparation for the onset of the rainy season, which is expected to start on May or June this year.

"When there is a sudden change of weather, animal diseases usually occur, that's why we have to prepare the animals for this," Decena said.
The usual disease that attacks carabaos is Hemosep and “Aratay” for chicken and other poultry animals.
Damage to livestock and poultry in the province remained at P3.4 million.
The Office of the Provincial agriculturist, on the other hand, reported that damage to crops in the province continues to increase. From P27 million last week, it is now placed to P28,785,877.60.
Areas affected are Murcia - P1,296,000 (corn) and P176,555.60 (rice); Himamaylan - P648,475; Cauayan - P36,400 (rice) and P800,120 (corn); La Castellana - P144,000; Ilog - P166,880 (corn); Hinoba-an - P870,000 (corn) and P3,906,100 (rice); Kabankalan – P162,000; Hinigaran - P3,163,580; Calatrava – P3,726178,000 (rice) and P781,200 (vegetables); Binalbagan - P345,000; Sipalay - P139,725; Isabela - P420,000; Bacolod City - P226,800; San Carlos City - P6,069,000; Toboso - P537,600; and Sagay City - P933,475.
