Registration deadline for chessfest set Nov. 12


THE deadline of registration for the 10th Negrense Professionals (Degree Holders) Individual Chess Tournament is set on Thursday, November 12, at 6 p.m.

The tournament is slated to kick off Saturday, November 14, 1:30 p.m. at the Lobby of the Top’s Millennium Plaza Bowling Lanes, 10th Hilado Sts., Capitol Shopping Center, Bacolod City.

Tournament director and chief arbiter Dodz Felisilda said Sunday that there will definitely be no extension of the registration deadline so prospective participants are urged to sign up early.

Felisilda said he will be at the tournament venue until 6 p.m. on Thursday to attend to late registrants.

Organized and officiated by the Game Royale Aficionados of Negros Inc. and staged in cooperation with Top’s Millennium Plaza and Globe Telecom, the event is a 7-round Swiss system (1 hour 20 moves + 1 hour to finish the game) tournament which is open to all male and female Negrense chessers who must be holders of any four-year baccalaureate degree course.

First-timers in the event will be required to present a photocopy of their transcript of records, diploma or Professional Regulations Commission (PRC) license, while participants are required to know how to record chess games either through the Descriptive English Notation (PK4 – PQB4) or the Algebraic Notation (e4 – c5) and must bring their own tournament size chess set and chess clock during official match schedules.

Registration fee is P200 per participant and prizes awaiting the top finishers in this annual event are: for the Champion P3,000 gift certificate plus 42-inch, four-legged “King” trophy courtesy of former University of St. La Salle board 2 varsity player Vladimir “Vladi” Gonzeles; for the 1st Runner-up P2,000 gift certificate plus 36-inch, four-legged “Queen” trophy courtesy of Ricardo “Cano” Tan, former sponsor of the long-running Ryan Rupert F. Tan Memorial Kiddies Chess Tournament which produced chess talents like Fide Master Hamed Nouri and National Masters Rolando Andador and Sander Severino, among others; for the 2nd Runner-up P1,500 gift certificate plus 30-inch, four-legged “Rook” trophy courtesy of Sun-Gem Pharma; for the 3rd Runner-up P1,200 plus 27-inch, four-legged “Bishop” trophy courtesy of Seland Industrial Supply7 through Ms. Mai Grace Salve, sales specialist; and for the 4th Runner-up P1,000 plus 24-inch, four-legged “Knight” trophy courtesy of Rufo D. Gasapo, president of Bacolod Adventist Medical Center.

Meanwhile, the 6th to 15th place finishers will each receive Globe SIM cards plus P100 load and t-shirt courtesy of Ma. Sharon Villar Ciocon, Globe Telecom SM Center head.
