Safety of new call center assured

THE Bacolod City government assured the safety of the scheduled opening of operation of a new call center in the city that offers more jobs for Bacolodnons.

This as Mayor Evelio Leonardia said that last week, he together with Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson met with Seva Sobramaniam, country manager of Transcom Asia, to welcome the company based in Europe (Transcom Asia) which decided to invest in the city.

Leonardia said Transcom Asia is planning to open a call center in Bacolod this September at the Lopue’s South Square starting with 800 personnel. He said they have 2,000 to 3,000 target jobs to be opened, not only for would-be workers in Bacolod but also those coming from all over Negros Occidental.

Sobramaniam said the passing rates of the applicants in Bacolod are higher than that in Metro Manila. He also encouraged Bacolodnons working in call centers in other places, such as Cebu and Manila, to come back to the city “since said jobs are also already available here.”

Leonardia said this further confirms the previous perception that in Bacolod, the quality of prospective call center employees are quite high, and that is the reason call centers come to Bacolod to invest.

The City Government has assured Transcom it will give its full support to its operation as part of the development of the city, adding that this would include extending the lighting facilities up to where the company is located to ensure the safety of its employees.

Leonardia said the City Government now has additional lighting projects in several areas in the city to support the call center industry.

He said this would be a big development for the city and also for the people of Bacolod, considering that call center agents are earning a minimum of P10,000 to P15,000 a month. (Merlinda A. Pedrosa)
