Sigaboom drumbeating competition champion known


TRIBU Dos of La Carlota City in Negros Occidental was declared the Sigaboom 2008 grand champion in the province-wide drumbeating competition held at the north carpark of SM City Bacolod Sunday.

Tribu Ilahas and Tribu ni Juan Patik of Bacolod City ranked first and second runners-up, respectively. Other participating groups were Tribu Kansilay of Silay, Yab Yab Dungol of Cadiz, Taga-Magsungay and El Quatro of Bacolod City.

The judges were Russel Alaba of Shopping Center Management Corp., Dr. John Ledesma, a seasoned percussion player and instrument collector, Provincial Tourism officer Jennylind Crodero, Elmer Dado, one of the country’s most recognized house disc jockey and CJ Regino, a drummer and a linguist.

Dubbed as “The Worldbeat Challenge”, the competition also drew spectators not only from Bacolod but also from different cities and town in Negros Occidental who came to support their drumbeaters.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia graced the occasion and expressed appreciation to Bacolodnons and visitors who contributed to the overwhelming success of this year’s MassKara Festival.

He led the countdown of the spectacular fireworks display and officially announced the closing of the 29th MassKara Festival at SM.
