THE Office of the City Treasurer of Silay City is open on December 26, 29 and 30, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. to accommodate real property owners who are paying their realty taxes.

Mayor Jose Montelibano said the Silay City government offers 20 percent tax discount on all real property taxpayers who will pay their 2009 land tax and a 10 percent discount for the 2008 updated land tax.

This move is designed to encourage taxpayers to pay on time or ahead of time to increase the income of the city government.

Montelibano added that the incentives are also favorable to sugarcane planters who in return will benefit from the road construction and rural electrification program of Silay City, which will benefit hacienda workers in upper Silay.

The barangay captains of the 16 barangays in Silay are also in the frontline of the tax campaign because their barangays are also beneficiaries of tax collection.

Councilor Joedith Gallego, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay, said that the barangay captains who will be benefited by the program have already given priorities to special projects like waste management, additional water source, waterways clearing and health program.
