Doble: Fast and curious
Take Two
Thursday, January 26, 2012
THE fast boys are it again.
One was making a U-turn on a Saturday night at Tangub highway just past the Catholic Church when another screeched a long one. The big bang that followed awakened the neighborhood at around 10.
Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.
Both were not racing, though, like the gangs who frequent the highways at midnight and rev up their engines like Schumacher. Both were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
With detached bumpers, broken lights and other parts scattered on the road, traffic enforcers and police investigators tried to restore order and look into the accident.
While interviewing the shocked superstars of the highway, another mad driver in an AUV smacked the culprit's already damaged vehicle, ignoring the authorities' waving flashlights and signals.
Wham! Strike two for the unlucky car. The police just gave chase to the hit and run contestant.
Enough of the fast drivers and the curious kibitzers. Nobody was hurt seriously, anyway, as the involved parties finished what they have started by answering what the police needed to know.
The duo could have joined the high speed daredevils in the Old Bacolod Airport Tanduay Rhum races easily. They just passed with flying colors their night qualifying run with some of its curious fans coming in a bit late to see the results.
Curiosity kills a cat, they say. But it is the only way some people knew how to handle stress and do something about it. Nosy people need to straighten what seemed not working or left out of what has been planned and approved.
Like the Senator Koko Pimentel and Congressman Golez Basketball Cup at Regent Pearl Subdivision in Barangay Alijis. The tournament's tarpaulin and signage were detached from the gym's scaffolding.
And the league commissioner can't do something about it because a new set of officers for the homeowners took over. It is their property and sports organizers have no control over the gym.
But the curious got a deeper reason. It seemed that the fund from the Senator and the Congressman to bankroll the tournament has not found its mark. Somewhere along the way, it got stranded or fell in somebody's bank account.
The commissioner has to gather the crumbs from participants' entry fees to pay its referees and other expenses. He is in a quandary whether to approach the Senator's wife, who graced the opening ceremony together with the Congressman, or the solon's representative in Alijis.
This man has to move fast. Otherwise, he will end up furious.
So much for curiosity.
