12th Tan Kek Pin hoopla opens Saturday

THE 12th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup will commence on January 29 at the Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.
Incoming president Arvin Chua said that a total of 15 teams will join the tourney. Six teams will vie for the Class A title while nine teams will slug it out for the Class B crown.

The competing teams in Class A will be the defending champion Talisay City, Rogers/Province of Negros Occidental, University of St. La Salle, University of Negros Occidental Recoletos, Fil-Sino and JSY Transport.
Hostilities will start after a short opening ceremony with Talisay City starting their title retention bid against Rogers/Province at 3:30 p.m., followed by the tussle between JSY Transport and UNO-R at 5p.m.
All Class A games will be played every Saturday with two games starting at 5:30 p.m. and a triple header on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The teams in Class B are N Rich Multipurpose Cooperative, Nena’s Rose I, Nena’s Rose II Shopping, 888 Chinatown Square, Rapide Auto Experts, Sta. Fe Resort, RU Shredder, Alfie’s Construction and Buddy Johann Kendrick.
Class B games will be played every Monday, Wednesday and Friday starting at 7p.m.
Tan Kek Pin is a basketball patron during the 70s in whose honor the tournament has been held for the past eleven years. The tournament is managed and organized by the Fil-Sino Athletic Club. (Stephen Tan)
