Simon Greatwich to grace Talisay football

PHILIPPINES Azkals midfielder Simon Greatwich will be in Talisay City today, Friday, to distribute the 70 t-shirts donated by Teleformance to kids who are participating in the 8-a-side Mayor Eric Saratan Weekend Football League.

“The tournament is part of Mayor Saratan’s grassroots sports development program,” disclosed city sports coordinator and tournament commissioner Warren Concepcion.

The games kicked off first week of October and are played every Sunday at the Talisay football field. More than 650 players not only from Talisay but also from Victorias, silay and Bacolod Cities enlisted in the tourney.

Teleperformance fielded a team composed of its employees in the Men’s Open category, narrated Concepcion.

When they saw the sorry plight of the kids who are participating in the tourney, Teleperformance decided to donate t-shirts for the kids’ uniform as part of its corporate social outreach program, he added.

Talisay Mayor Eric Saratan, Vice Mayor Neil Lizares, other city officials and football aficionados also donated more t-shirts, bringing the total t-shirts to be distributed to the players today at more than 600 pieces.

“It was Teleperformance which invited and facilitated the presence of Simon Greatwich in today’s affair,” said Concepcion.

Greatwich will pay a courtesy visit to Mayor Saratan at the City Hall 3 p.m. today where they will then hold a press conference.

After the meeting with the media, Mayor Saratan and Greatwich will lead a caravan to the Talisay football field where the distribution of shirts will be conducted. Joining them are Minuluan-Talisay Football Club president Rafael T. Lizares, Jr. and club vice president Councilor Edmundo Celis.

To be feted in the caravan are Talisaynon booters who brought honor to the city, namely Michael Quinlat, Michael Rojo, Janrick Soriano, Thea Claire Concepcion and Carmela Gabiola.

Quinlat played for the Philippine football team in the Homeless World Cup in Brazil while Rojo and Soriano also played for the national team in the in the Homeless World Cup in France.

Concepcion and Gabiola donned the country’s colors in the Asian Football Confederation Under 14 Girls Championship in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam.

The day’s affair will be highlighted by six exhibition matches at the Talisay football field.

Meanwhile, slambang football action awaits fans on February 9-12 in Talisay as part of the city’s celebration of its charter day on February 11.

February 9-10 will showcase the championship of the on-going 8-a-side Mayor Eric Saratan Weekend Football League.

On February 11-12, the city will present the 7-a-side national invitationals which will be played in eight divisions, namely Men’s Open, Men’s 38-years old and above, Ladies Open, 17 Under Boys, 15 Under girls, 13 Under Boys, 13 Under Girls ans 10 Under Boys/Girls Mix.

Games will be played simultaneously at the Talisay Football Field and the Carlos Hilado Memorial State College.
