12th Tan Kek Pin Basketball Cup Talisay scores 2nd victory

Talisay City escaped UNO-R Polvora's Law Office, 96-91 for its second victory in as many games while University of St. La Salle-NHOJ's ran past Fil-Sino B-Meg Mang Inasal, 95-82 last Saturday in Class A action of the 12th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Po Hang Gym.
In the 4th quarter, Tata Javillo's free throw put UNO-R on top 82-81 but Talisay responded with a 6-0 run, courtesy of 4-point play by Sonny Abaring and Jornel Laborte and the two free throws of Ervin De La Peña.

Javillo scored the next seven points for Polvora against an Atoy Salazar lay-up to cut the lead to 91-89 with 1:20 left.
A Xylesis Herdon lay-up cut the lead further to 92-91, but Abaring scored on a 3-point play to give Talisay some breathing room. Abaring also grabbed the offensive rebound after the two missed free throws by teammate Mamerto Santillan and sealed the victory with a free throw.
Abaring finished with 22 points, Laborte delivered 14, De La Peña picked up 13 while Salazar and Mamerto Santillan contributed 12 points each.
Joemel Paderog led Polvora with 19 points but fouled out midway in the 4th quarter. He was backstopped by Richer Santillan with 16 points, Herdon with 15 and Javillo with 12 points.
In the 2nd game, it was a contrast of styles as Fil-Sino relied on its slow break lowpost offense while USLS tried to quicken the pace with its fastbreak attacks. B-Meg Mang Inasal was on top at the half, 41-39, but USLS broke away in the 2nd half as they got their running game going.
USLS was led by Arturo Cuaresma with 20 points, Harvey Eslawa added 16, Nikos Cuenca shot 14 while Scott Salvacion and Carl Antiporda delivered 8 points each.
Ritchie Militante paced Fil-Sino with 15 points, Robbie Jalando-on scored 13, Carl John Oquindo made 11, Jason Milarin and Arnold Gono added 10 points each and Richard Caberte had 8.
Last Friday in Class B encounter, Buddy Johann Kendrick made it 2-0, as it routed N-RICH Multipurpose Cooperative, 99-75.
Mark Coo led Buddy with 26 points, Vincent Javelosa had 21, Mark Binguan 16 and Charlton Ong 12. Buddy spoiled the 31 points output of NRich's Julius Teruel with teammate Adonis Rosales adding 20 points.
888 Chinatown Square stayed atop the leaderboard with its 3rd straight win, holding off Nena's Rose Shopping, 96-86.
888 was paced by Rey Pandoro's 29 points, Richard Co scored 20 and Marc Lo 14 points. Matthew Yap led Nena's Rose with 20 points and Kenderson Hao had 15. (Stephen Tan)
