Alfie’s Construction earns first win

ALFIE’S Construction notched its 1st win by holding off Buddy Johann Kendrick, 89-87 while Nena’s Rose-Shopping defeated NRich Multipurpose Cooperative, 112-86 in Class B action of the 12th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup in TTHS Po Hang Gym.

In the payoff quarter, Alfie’s led 78-70 before JKT Franklin Madrid and Mark Binguan cut the lead to two points. Alfie’s Bobby Yap nailed back-to-back trey to bring the lead back to 84-76.

Mark Binguan also scored on a back-to-back trifecta for Buddy to draw closer at 89-84 and teammate Vincent Javelosa’s 3-point play cut the lead to a single basket.

However, Buddy missed on its attempt beyond the arc as time expired, allowing Alfie’s to escape with the victory.

Alfie’s took the opening quarter 24-22 as Chibon Uy and Peter Galon combined for 17 points, even as Binguan had 10 points and Jerky Ong scored 9 for Buddy.

Christopher Mahinay drilled three treys for 11 points in the 2nd quarter while Bobby Yap added 7 to keep the lead for Alfie’s, 46-44 at the break. Buddy countered with Badong Eufre scoring 9 points and Fr. Clarence Canafe contributing 6 points.

Buddy could not stop the offensive rebounding and putbacks of Peter Galon, as Alfie’s extended the lead to 74-68 going to the 4th quarter.

Galon drilled in 20 points for Alfie’s, Chibon Uy added 17, Mahinay scored 15, Yap shot 13 and David Lim had 9 points.

Buddy, dropping to 2-1 win-loss car, was led by Binguan with 21 points, Eufre added 18, Jerky Ong shot 13 and Madrid made 11 conversions.

Nena’s Rose-Shopping outscored NRich for the first three quarters, 29-15, 59-38, 86-60 to even their record at 2-2 while keeping NRIch winless in three outings.

Nena’s Rose-Shopping’s balance offensive was led by RJ Iligan with five treys for 15 points. Kenderson Hao also had 15 points, Vincent Tan contributed 14, Robert Alegario, Mark Velez and Victor Go had 13 points each, Matthew Yap shot 8 while Joseph Tiu and Jan Guevarra scored 7 points each.

Nico Lopingco finished with a game-high 32 points in a losing effort. Adonis Rosales added 15 while Romar Desusa and Richard Tan delivered 9 points each.

This weekend, University of St. La Salle-Nhojs, the only unbeaten team in Class A, will stake its 2-0 record against Rogers/Province of Negros Occidental on Saturday and JSY Transport on Sunday.
