LOPTTA holds 3rd Marell’s Cup Age Group Tourney

FORTY participants from all over Negros saw action in the recently concluded 3rd Marell’s Cup Age Group Tournament held at Lopue’s Table Tennis Association (LOPTTA) Event Center last February 18.
Paddlers from Binalbagan, Ma-ao, Andres Bonifacio Elementary School (ABES) 1, Trinity Christian School, JJ Gonzaga Elementary School, Montevista Elementary School, among others, joined the third edition of the tournament which was conceptualized by Marell V. Lagunday, formerly the number one lady player in the Philippines.

The annual event for 7 and 10 years old table tennis players was co-sponsored by Lopue’s Table Tennis Association (LOPTTA) president Dr. Leonito ‘Diotay’ Lopue.
“LOPTTA co-sponsored the event which encourages the very young kids to join, have fun and develop their love for table tennis. Who knows? Future champions might emerge from among their ranks,” said Lopue.
Roan Vasquez of Binalbagan romped off with the title in the Mixed Boys & Girls 7 and Under category. Vasquez overwhelmed ABES 1’s Raul Mallen III in three straight sets, 11-6, 11-8, 11-9. France Hermogenes of Ma-ao settled for 2nd-runner up honors.
In the Girl’s 10 and Under Category, Edria Garganian of ABES 1 had to go through four sets, 11-9, 12-14, 11-6, 11-6 to subdue schoolmate Jesslene Mallen. Another ABES 1 entry, Alyssa Toleco, landed as 2nd runner-up while Mariebelle Avenido of Montevista Elementary School placed 3rd runner up.
ABES 1 continued its dominance even in the Boys 10 and Under. Schoolmates Areanal Ariola and Shannon Barilea dueled for the title, with Ariola outclassing Barilea, 11-6, 11-7, 11-4. Matt Pedero of Ma-ao and Jeeve Kiano Sorita of Montevista Elementary School placed 2nd runner up and 3rd runner-up, respectively.
In the special event, the team of Lopue, Edmund Garganian Sr., Marlon Serviñas, Judge Abraham Bayona, Sheryl Otañes, Edria Garganian, Toto Aldeguer and Atty. Cortez scored an 11-5 victory over the team of Pastor Ian Alvarez, Maricar Serviñas, Mario Ferrer, Edwin Timtiman and George Salvallon.
