TOP-SEED Organic Solutions and No. 3 Jast Enterprises set up a winner-take-all clash this Friday in Class B of the 2012 Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade 1st conference intercolor tournament at TTHS Po Hang Gym.
In the semifinals clash last Monday, Organic Solutions won in convincing fashion and registered a 69-40 rout of JSY Transport. In contrast, Jast Enterprises came from behind to slip past number 2 Basecom, 77-73.
JSY Transport kept pace with Organic in the 1st quarter and was just facing a 2-point deficit at 16-14.
But Transport misfired from all angles, as they missed all their field goal attempts in the 2nd quarter and scored only 3 points, all coming from the charity line.
Brian Ong and Simon Tan delivered 9 and 6 points, respectively for Solutions for a 33-17 halftime lead.
Transport’s offense continued to sputter in the 2nd half, as they managed to score only 23 points against the 36 points of Organic.
Brian Ong finished with 16 points, Jerky Ong and Tan had 10 points each while Ardian Ong and Bingbong Villanueva chipped in 7 points each.
Tubby Villanueva led jSY with 9 points while Siopao Dichavez and Garret Tabanao added 8 points each.
In the other game, Dr. Chico Coruña scored 13 points in the 1st quarter and Luigi Coo added 8 points to give Basecom a 26-19 opening quarter lead.
Edward Uy scored 11 points in the 2nd quarter for Basecom, as the lead remained with Basecom at the break, 47-40, even as Kevin Banzon, Brian Javelosa and Papang Oxinio scored 4 points apiece for Jast.
Jan Jan Young tallied 7 points as he led a balanced Jast offensive to draw closer at 63-60 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
In the payoff quarter, poor free throw shooting doomed Basecom which can only muster 10 points in the quarter, with Coo delivering 7 points.
Jast’s frontcourt of Ralph Ong, Brian Javelosa and Kieron Tan were dominating the rebounds at both ends of the court, giving more chances for their shooters Kevin Banzon and Young to deliver 7 and 4 points, respectively.
Banzon paced Jast with 15 points, backstopped by Ong with 14 points, Young 13 points, Christopher Mahinay 7 and Javelosa 6.
Coo delivered 18 points in a losing effort while Coruña and Uy contributed 14 points each. (Stephen Tan)
