ATLANTIC Auto Parts shared leadership honors with Joshbianc Motors at two wins apiece in the Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade 2nd conference intercolor tournament at TTHS Po Hang gym.

Last Monday, Atlantic survived the 4th quarter rally by Johann Kendrick, 96-83, as John Montemayor and Johnnyson Yu knocked in 10 points each to fend off the rally.

With JK facing a 15 point deficit in the payoff quarter, Biboy Yap conspired with Kirell Brahndon Montalbo to cut the lead to 7 points but 10 straight points from Montemayor kept JK at bay.

JK made a last ditch effort anew as they drew closer to 5 points but Montalbo suffered a cramp, forcing him to sit out the rest of the game.

Ricky Chua and Yap tried valiantly to carry the scoring load for JK but Johnnyson Yu doused cold water to the rally, as he scored 10 straight points for Atlantic.

Montemayor scored 14 1st quarter points and Brian Coo’s putbacks put Atlantic on top, 26-20. Montalbo sunk 14 points for JK.

JK did not mark deadshot Michael Ang and paid dearly for it, as he nailed 3 treys for 15 points while teammate Marc Lo added 7 points as Atlantic kept the lead, 54-43 at the break.

Atlantic again outscored JK in the 3rd quarter, as they extended the lead to 73-58 behind Marc Lo’s 9 points.

Montemayor paced Atlantic with 24 points, Ang added 18 points, Marc Lo scored 16 points and Yu made 12 points.

Montalbo delivered a game-high 26 points, Yap picked up 13 points while Ritchie Militante and Chua scored 12 points apiece.

In the main game Joshbianc kept pace with Atlantic, defeating Guanzon Dental Clinic 96-87.

Joshbianc took the half, 47-43, as Richard Co nailed 3 triples for 11 points while Joshua Co and Arnold Laureño combined for 18 points. Christopher Mahinay finished with 15 points, all scored in the 2nd quarter for Guanzon.

Joshbianc had a double digit cushion 69- 57 at the end of the 3rd quarter delivered by Joshua Co’s 8 points and Jerky Ong’s 5 points.

With Dr. Emil Guanzon, Jose Miguel Montinola and Matthew Yap at the firing end, Guanzon cut the lead to a single digit but the offensive option of Guanzon was limited from the outside, stifled by the defense of Joshbianc and backed by Richard Co and Laureño’s 6 points each to pull off the victory.

Son and father tandem led the scoring for Joshbianc with the younger Joshua Co making 21 points while Richard Co had 17 points, backstopped by Laureño with 14 points, Vincent Javelosa 10 points and Jeremy Coo 9 points.

Guanzon finished with 23 points, Montinola and Chibon Uy scored 11 points each and Yap had 9 points.

In last Friday’s game, Orix Metro came from behind to stun Campuestohan Highland Resort, 85-82.

Orix’s Robbie Jalando-on, who was scoreless in the 1st 3 quarters, sizzled with 22 points in the payoff quarter, as Orix overcame a 66-54 deficit at the start of the payoff quarter to steal the victory.

Jan Jan Guevarra added 15 points, Kenderson Hao hit 12 points and Ardian Ong delivered 8 points.

Yan Yan Dy paced the losers with 28 points, Ralph Richard Tan sunk 12 points, RB Chua delivered 9 points and Badong Eufre contributed 8 points. (Stephen Tan)
