Terra Dolce, Legends emerge triumphant

TERRA Dolce/Jollibee 1990-92 routed Waterfull/Celcor 1993-95 79-54 while Legends (89 and earlier) with Batch 2009 outplayed Raga Raga Inc. 2003-05 73-63 in the 5th SJI Alumni Basketball Friendship Cup at the Msgr. John B. Liu Activities Center.
Terra Dolce/Jollibee, bridesmaid for the last three years, started out on a bright note as Peewee Demonteverde keyed a 2nd quarter breakaway with 13 points while teammate Oliver Manaloto added 6 points to post a 45-27 lead at the break after a slim 20-18 advantage in the opening quarter.
The lead ballooned to 65-40, as 8 players scored for Jollibee in the quarter.
Demonteverde paced TD with 17 points, Richard Co scored 16 points, Manaloto delivered 15 points and Dominic Ciocon and Glenn Ortaliz picked up 8 points each.
Michael Ang, Julius Teruel and Vincent Javelosa scored 13 points each but lacked the offensive support from their other teammates.
In the 2nd game, Kevin Daniel Ramos scored 31 points and Wilson Gamboa Jr. added 13 points to give the Legends/2009 the victory in its first outing.
Ramos scored 15 1st half points, putting the Legends/2009 on top at the break with a 33-24 lead, even as Randall Nonato scored 7 points supported by three teammates with 4 points each.
Both teams had the same 3rd quarter output, as the Legends/2009 continued to keep Raga at bay.
Marco Ongsingco’s inside incursions netted him 12 points while teammate Michael Sian scored 5 points, as they made a strong challenge to the Legends and slicing the lead to as low as 6 points.
However, timely baskets from Ramos on several assists from playmaker Richard Uy doused the fire of Raga-Raga’s rally.
The Legends also got support from Richie Ang who contributed 8 points while EJ Go and Uy chipped in 6 points each.
Marco Ongsingco paced Raga Raga with 18 points, Nonato shot 9 points, Michael Sian made 8 points, Mark Vasquez delivered 7 points and Carlo Ongsingco had 6 points.
Games today (Thursday) start at 6:30 p.m. pits Phoenix 99-2k against Petron 2001-02/2012 to be followed by Eleven Degrees 96-98 against New Energy Marketing 2008, 2010-11. (Stephen Tan)
