Wiltrade shocks 2-time defending champ

WILLTRADE Marketing/Phoenix shocked two-time defending champion Team 5, 85 to 69 last Sunday in the ongoing Tay Tung High School Alumni Cagefest at the Po Hang Gym.

During the first quarter, Bong Lopes had 16 points while Siopao Dechavez and Rommel Ting delivered 5 points each to outclass Team 5 with a fiery start en route to a 32–9 lead.

During the 2nd quarter, prolific scorer Carlos Chiu poured in 13 points, holding Team 1 at bay to end the half at 49 – 27.

In the 3rd quarter, Jepoy Nieles and Third Delloso together with Larry Bril’s defensive work in the low post area sustained a 21 point cushion entering the 4th quarter.

At the 4th quarter, Team 5 led by Carl Edemne, Babbam Guevarra and RB Chua cut the lead to 5 points with 5 minutes remaining but a short jumper by Delloso and successive 3-pointers by Nieles, Roy Dominguez and Malvin Pineda doused the comeback of Team 5.

It was the 2nd straight win by the Rey Pandoro coached team. In their opening game last Aug 4, they routed Team 0, 94 – 33.

Scoring leaders for Willtrade/Phoenix were Bong Lopez with 16 pts, Carlo Chiu 13 points and Nieles and Delloso with 11 points each. Team 5 was led by Carl Edemne with 22 points, RB Chua 13 points and Bambam Guevarra with 9 points.

Later in the 3rd game, Team 3 won by a squeaker over Team 0, 74–73.

Team 3 scoring leaders were Tan with 18 points and Kho with 20 points. Team 0 leaders were Bong Palo with 29 points and Van Yu with 12 points.

Other results of the games last Sunday: 1st Game: Team 9 defeated BTTHS 122–117.

August 11 results: 1st game: Team 8 defeated BTTHS, 88–86; 2nd game: Team 7 defeated Team 4, 91–76; 3rd game: Team 6 defeated Team 2, 99–70.
