Willtrade/Phoenix whips Chowking in Tay Tung Alumni cagefest

TEAM Willtrade/Phoenix again displayed its vaunted running game to turn back Team 3 Chowking, 108 to 61 during the weekend in the ongoing Tay Tung High School Alumni Cagefest.

As usual, the powerhouse Batch 81 and 91 that made up Team 1 outclassed their foes in the 1st quarter to establish an early 30 to 6 commanding lead. The quartet of Bong Lopez, Siopao Dechavez, Rommel Ting and Doc Antipuesto led the onslaught.

In the 2nd quarter, Chowking tried to comeback through the efforts of Matin Yu's 8 points and James Kho's 7 points but Team Willtrade/Phoenix's Carlo Chiu scored 8 points and Shenly Uy's 6 points carried the load for Willtrade/Phoenix to maintain a half time lead of 47-31.

In the 3rd quarter, Jepoy Nieles directed the tempo, as Malvin Pineda scored 12 points and Tong Yap fired 3 straight triples to further extend the lead at 81 - 49 entering the 4th quarter.

Team Willtrade/Phoenix further outclassed Team Chowking in the 4th quarter, as Jepoy Nieles, Shenly Uy, Tong Yap, Marvin Pineda and Third Deloso controlled the game with a fast run-and-gun play to further establish the resounding lead at the end of the game.

Marvin Pineda topscored with 14 points, Carlo Chiu and Tong Yap scored 12 points each and Bong Lopes added 11 points for the winning team's balanced offense which saw 22 players contributing points for the win.

Team Chowking was led by James Kho with 13 points, with Kenderson Hao and Martin Yu adding 6 points apiece.

In the 3rd game, Team 9 Avenue Suites also remained unbeaten, as it eked out a 76-75 win over Team Davies Paints. It was a nip and tuck game all throughout, as both teams battled for lead changes in the 4th quarter.

Antonio Wong drilled the twinner with 9 seconds left in the clock for Team Avenue Suites' win. Team Davies had the chance to win but RB Chua missed his jumper, as time run out on the scramble for rebound.

Team Avenue Suites was led by Antonio Wong's 13 points and Jobert Lomutan's 11 points, while Gene Sibaya and Pete Barcelona added 10 points and 9 points, respectively.

Team Davies Paints was led by Carl Edemne with 12 points, RB Chua sank 10 points, Simon Guevarra 9 points and Bambam Guevarra 8 points.

Earlier in the 1st game, the BTTHS juniors team of coach Bobby Tee defeated Team 10, 94 to 70.
