Davies Paint turns back Davies/Mang Inasal

DAVIES defeated Davies/Mang Inasal, 95–85, at the Bacolod Tay Tung High School Basketball tournament at the Po Hang Gym during the weekend.
Showing the form of a back-to-back defending champion, Davies had to overcome an 18 point deficit and forge the overtime after regulation ended at 76 all.
Davies/Mang Inasal crumbled during the extra period, as Davies took the hard earned victory and assured themselves of a crack for a finals berth against elimination round tormentor Willtrade/Phoenix.
Davies/Mang Inasal started strong in the first quarter, as they led 20 – 9 behind the efforts of Aldin Lim with 13 points and Ben Arca 7 points.
In the second quarter, Davies/Mang Inasal further extended the lead as they outscored Davies Paints 30 to 23. Sherwin Ngo scored 8 points while Bobby Yap, Kenneth Cusay and Joseph Tiu added 6 points each to finish the half 50–32.
In the third quarter, Davies Paints’ Jas Guevarra waxed hot with 12 points and RB Chua added 7 points to help trim the lead of Davies/Mang Inasal to 12 points at 66–54 entering the 4th quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Davies Paint played heads up basketball, as Davies Paints’ Guevarra brothers Jas and Bambam, Carl Edemne and RB Chua delivered the needed points to claw back and tie the score at 76 all at the end of regulation time.
Davies/Mang Inasal had the chance to win the game, as Bobby Yap was fouled with 9 seconds left and Davies Paint was ahead 76-75. He converted just one free throw and missed the other for the overtime.
In overtime, Davies Paints totally outscored Davies/Mang Inasal for the victory.
Davies Paints RB Chua finished with 24 points, Carl Edemne 22 points, JasGuevarra 22 points and Bambam Guevarra 10 points.
Davies/Mang Inasal was led by Kenneth Cusay 14 points while Bobby Yap and Ian Moyan added 14 points and 11 points, respectively.
In the other game, Avenue Suites turned back a stubborn Chowking squad 95 -88 and arranged a semi-final match with bracket B top team MS Tablet. Avenue Suites bucked the absence of main men Pete Barcelona and early exit of Tonyo Wong to foul trouble in the 2nd quarter, as their young guns quelled repeated rallies by the gritty Chowking squad to establish the win.
Avenue Suites was topscored by Jobert Lumotan with 22 points, Luis Genobata 15 points, Amado Juguan 15 points and Gene Sibaya 9 points. Chowking was led by Matthew Yap with 18 points while James Kho added 16 points, Shaw Vista 16 points and Vincent Tan 10 points.
This Saturday’s semi-final match will pit Willtrade/Phoenix against Davies Paints and MS Tablet against Avenue Suites. The winners will battle for the championship on Sunday while the losers vie for third place.
