MANG Inasal routed Johann Kendrick Tan 84-63 while ESJ Centre defeated Appliance Centrum/LA Gasoline Station 82-74 at the start of Class B games of the Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup at TTHS Po Hang Gym.

Mark Binguan, Clarence Quingco and Shinley Uy jumpstarted Mang Inasal’s offense for a 23-14 opening quarter lead, as Joshua Co picked up 8 points for JKT.

Playing with only seven players, JKT was penalized with 6 points, as the lead ballooned to 15 points at the start of the 2nd quarter.

RB Chua scored 12 points and Garret Tabanao made two treys to engineer JKT’s comeback and cut the deficit to 2 points before Mang Inasal made it a 41-35 halftime advantage.

Mang Inasal recovered its bearings in the 2nd half, with Quingco, Daniel Ong and Joel Masadia providing the offense with 10 points each and the lead ballooned to more than 20 points.

In the 4th quarter, JKT gambled on a full court man-to-man defense and it immediately paid off as they capitalized on the turnovers of Mang Inasal and the lead went down to 15 points.

However, JKT could not sustain its run as Mang Inasal found ways to score to extend the lead again to 20 points

Mang Inasal was led by Quingco with 18 points, Masadia and Uy scored 12 points each, Jolly Castillo and Ong with 10 points apiece, Binguan shot 8 points and Chingsan Su chipped in 6 points.

In the 2nd game ESJ outscored Appliance Centrum for the 1st 3 quarters and was able to hold off an Appliance Centrum’s rally in the 4th quarter.

Five triples from Centrum’s Luigi Coo and Peter Ortaliz’s 8 inside points were not enough to stop the balance offense by ESJ Centre led by Keith Banzon with 10 points, Vincent Javelosa 8 points, Badong Eufre 7 points and Bryan Javelosa 6 points as ESJ posted a 48-37 halftime lead.

Brian Coo and Ervin Tan scored 6 points each, as the lead grew to a commanding 73-51 before LA Gasoline’s Jose Miguel Montinola and Luigi Coo combined in the payoff quarter to cut the lead to a single digit.
