SJI hoopsters gun for 6-peat in NOPSCEAA

ST. JOHN’S Institute will be gunning for a 6peat against the University of St. La Salle Integrated School for the 10 and under NOPSCEAA Basketball title at the West Negros University Gym on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
In the crossover semifinals SJI dominated Tangub Christian Academy 63-20 while USLS defeated Tay Tung High School 67-50.
DJ Dy paced the balance baby falcons offensive with 12 points. Dy has been the surprise package in his last 3 games for the baby Falcons, aside from topscoring in this game also had 12 and 8 points in his last 2 games.

Aceford Chua scored 7 points to jumpstart the SJI offense as he singlehandedly outscored TCA in the opening quarter for a 12-4 lead.
A balance 2nd quarter offensive spearheaded by JF Quinto as the Baby Falcons extended the lead to 28-9 at the break.
SJI limited TCA to 2 points in the 3rd quarter as Dy and Andrei Lechoncito delivered 6 points apiece as Hua ming posted a commanding 49-11 advantage going to the 4th quarter.
Aman Arceo added 10 points for SJI, Chua shot 7 points, Lechoncito and Joshua Baldonado made 6 points each. Ken Ong and Quinto shot 4 points apiece, Kyle Andrada Steven Pura, Ernest Hilado and Julio Pandan scored 3 points each and Josh Luciano with 2 points
Espinosa paced TCA with 10 points, Ginolos 4 points Parreño 3 points, Virayo 2 points and Mallari 1 pt.
In the other semifinal encounter USLS-IS held a 28-20 advantage at the half as Matthew Benedicto and JJ Castro scored 9 points and 7 points respectively against TTHS Edison Jumayao 10 points and Renli Bayquin 6 points
TTHS outscored the baby Stingers in the 3rdquarter to cut the deficit to 48-43 as Jumayao and Carlo Tenedero delivered 8 points apiece. While Ace Baldevarona and John Remollo tallied 6 points apiece.
Benedicto and Baldevarona conspired for a USLS-IS breakaway and stopping the baby Dragons who was limited to 7 free throws without a single field goal in the final quarter.
Benedicto had a gamehigh 25 points Baldevarona fired 14 points Remollo shot 11 points, Castro with 9 points, Masaki Kamei, Cris Año and Gavin De La Cruz had 2 points each,
Jumayao paced TTHS with 21 points, supported by Tenedero 8 pts. Renli Bayquin & Christian Serrano with 7 points apiece, Carl Oquindo, Ryan Tan, Kenneth Bayquin and Jules Wong with 2 points each.
