SJI hoopsters score 6-peat in Nopsceaa 10 & Under

STEVEN Pura sizzled with 25 points to lead St. John’s Institute to a 6-peat in the 10 and Under NOPSCEAA Basketball against the University of St. La Salle - Integrated School 60-52 last Sunday at the West Negros University Gym.
The Baby Stingers had a slim opening quarter 12-11 advantage behind JJ Castro’s 5 points.
Pura and Aceford Chua scored 4 points each, pushing the Baby Falcons on top at halftime 27-22.
USLS-IS grabbed the lead at 35-34, but Pura and Luciano conspired for a 6-0 closing quarter run to make sure that the lead stays with SJI at 40-35.
Ace Baldevarona scored 12 points for the Baby Stingers in the 4th canto, but USLS-IS had no answer to the duo of Pura and Andrei Lechoncito who made 11 and 8 points, respectively.
Backstopping Pura were Lechoncito with 12 points, Luciano 6 points, Chua, JF Quinto and Aman Arceo with 4 points each, Scott Albayda and Ken Ong with 2 points each and Joshua Baldonado with one point.
Baldevarona paced USLS-IS with 20 points, Castro shot 13 points, Matthew Benedicto made 11 points, John Remollo had 4 points and Cris Año contributed 3 points.
Tay Tung High School won 2nd runner up against Tangub Christian Academy. (Stephen Tan)
