Foodman turn back Appliance Centrum in OT

FOODMAN and Mang Inasal moved closer to clinching the top two spots in the 8-team tourney after holding off separate opponents in Class B of the 13th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Basketball Cup at TTHS Po Hang Gym.
Foodman needed an extra period to dispose of Appliance Centrum/LA Gasoline Station 110-103, while Mang Inasal defeated an undermanned Fox Shox 89-79.
Mang Inasal and Foodman are tied at 4-1, while Shox and Centrum have the same record at 1-4.
Centrum missed on an opportunity to get the victory in regulation, as Foodman's Ralph Richard Tan made a trey with 4 seconds left to force the extension on an assist from Arvin Gustilo.
Foodman scored the first four points in the extra period and never looked back, as Peter Galon scored 8 points and Arvin Gustilo added 5 points to keep Foodman atop the standings.
Both teams played to a standoff at the half, 47 all, as Foodman's Dr. Emil Guanzon scored 11 points and Ralph Richard Tan made 10 points against RJ Iligan's 10 points and Pao Pao Lim's 8 points.
Peter Galon and Richard Tan combined for 12 points to push Foodman to a 69-66 lead going to the 4th quarter.
Luigi Coo waxed hot beyond the trifecta area in the 4th quarter, as he converted 4 treys, scoring 11 of his 13 points in one stretch for LA Gasoline but Foodman countered with Galon and Gustilo delivering 8 points each.
Galon led Foodman with 25 points, backstopped by Gustilo with 21, Guanzon 18 points, Ralph Tan 16 points, Chris Javelosa 12 points, Richard Tan 10 points and David Tan 8 points.
Coo paced LA Gasoline with 22 points, Ortaliz added 20 points, Lim made 14 pts, Jose Miguel Montinola had 10 points while Eduardo Ng, Rey Pandoro and Nico Yap shot 8 points apiece.
Fox Shox played with only 5 players but was ahead in the opening quarter 21-10 behind Michael Ang's 10 points and Livingstone Ang's 8 points.
Fox Shox was penalized with 10 points in the 2nd quarter, as both teams have equal output in the quarter. Shox held a slim 39-38 advantage at the break.
Mang Inasal grabbed the lead in the 3rd canto, 66-61, as Shinley Uy led a balanced offensive with 8 points even as Marc Lo hit 12 points for Shox.
Inasal took advantage of the fatigue-riddled Shox with their fastbreak attacks, as Clarence Quingco and Uy deliverd 7 points each. Michael Ang made 3 treys but to no avail, as it was not enough to overtake Inasal.
Uy topscored with 19 points, Chingsan Su delivered 13, Quingco shot 12 points, Dandan Ong had 10 points, Joel Masadia with 8 points, Mark BInguan had 7 points while Biboy Yap and Jolly Castillo hit 6 points each.
Michael Ang delivered a game-high 24 points, Marc Lo added 18 points, Livingstone Ang picked up 17 points, while Eugene Tsai and Ryan Tumbagahan scored 10 points apiece. (Stephen Tan/Contributor)
